Chip Carter, Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter's Son, Pays Tribute to the Former First Lady after Her Loss

Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter's son, Chip Carter, shared a few kind words about his late mother in a statement posted on The Carter Center website. Rosalynn recently passed away after battling dementia.

Many mourned the passing of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter on November 19, 2023, including her supporters, friends, and most especially her family.

Through the family's organization's website, the devastating news of Mrs. Carter's loss was shared, alongside personal tributes to the beloved wife and mother.

Chip Carter, one of Rosalynn's four children, shared a few sweet words about his mother and how she lived her life to the fullest. He said:

"Besides being a loving mother and extraordinary First Lady, my mother was a great humanitarian in her own right. Her life of service and compassion was an example for all Americans."

He added, "She will be sorely missed not only by our family but by the many people who have better mental health care and access to resources for caregiving today."

Rosalynn has been a mental health advocate for many years through different avenues, including Georgia's Governor's Mansion, the White House, and The Carter Center. She also had an appetite for improving access to health care and eliminating the stigma about mental health.

On November 17, 2023, the Carter family revealed that Rosalynn was put into an at-home hospice care, spending her days surrounded by family, including her husband, former President Jimmy Carter, who entered hospice care in February. In May 2023, Rosalynn's dementia diagnosis was revealed to the public.

Still, she celebrated her 96th birthday in August, together with her family. During the celebration, the Carter family gathered at their Plains, Georgia home and bonded over peanut butter ice cream and cupcakes.

Throughout the milestones and challenges, Jimmy and Rosalynn, married for nearly 80 years, have stood by each other's side. They have spent recent years living privately and away from prying eyes. Their last appearance happened two months before Rosalynn's death at the Plains Peanut Festival.
